TORII GATE

Begin your journey by entering through the Torii Gate.

This wooden entrance signifies a Shinto Shrine. Shintoism, an ancient religion of Japan, reveres nature and believes that gods reside in trees, rocks, water, and mountains. No physical shrine was found in this garden during restoration but it’s possible the Fabyans considered the entire garden a shrine to nature.

When you pass under the torii gate, you pass from the mundane to the sacred world. Passing through this gate invites you to leave the chaos of the outside world behind and focus on the path to enlightenment. Follow the path to your left. We invite you to walk slowly and mindfully to experience the beauty of nature.
