Children living on the farm in the 19th century had chores to do and lessons to learn . . . but still found time to play. They got creative in making toys and games from whatever material they had on hand, like wood, stones, corn cobs, feathers, bones, string, and so many other things.
We have many old-fashioned games at the Durant-Peterson House and Sholes School for you to try – and not one of them needs batteries.!
Outdoor games that are harder than you think:
Graces - Ring the Hob - Corn Cob Darts - Hoops - Stilts - Cat and Mouse - I Spy - Marbles - Hop Scotch - Stilts - Jackstraws
Indoor games were perfect when the weather is cold or wet:
Checkers - Button Button -Nine Man’s Morris - Skittles - Hide the Thimble - Chess - Who Am I
The Durant House Museum has a suggested donation of $3 per adult and $1 per child and includes a visit to the Sholes School Museum.
