Textile Day

An afternoon of history and fun!

At the Durant - Peterson House: Learn how families worked with wool, flax, and cotton to spin, weave, and stitch as they created textiles in the 1800s. Last summer we had demonstrations. like these:

o   Susan, with her flax and wool, will prepare the fibers and spin.

o   Janet at the large loom will weave a rag rug.

o   Pat and Trish create brooms from last year’s broomcorn harvest.

o   Rashada will demonstrate how to spin on the great wheel

And watch how talented our young docents are at sewing, weaving, and quilt-making.

At the Sholes School: Learn the craft of paper-weaving and create your own artwork to take home. Hear how the one-room schoolhouse serviced the educational needs of the farming community. Use slate pencils to write and draw on old fashioned slate chalkboards.

Suggested donation $3/adults and $1/child 18 and under
