Boy Scouts

ADVENTURE TO THE PAST:  60 MINUTES

Examining tools of the past is just one of the important components in the study of history.  For this program, Scouts will learn about tools that were used to build the 1843 Durant House. This hands on program will allow participants to compare tools of the past with what we use today.

Fee:  $5/Scout; Minimum Group Fee: $50

Cub Scouts

ADVENTURE TO THE PAST:  60 MINUTES

This program will follow the same format as the Boy Scout program above but on an age appropriate level.

LIFE AT THE DURANT HOUSE:  90 MINUTES

Scouts will have the opportunity to immerse themselves into the life of young Abba Durant during the 1850s.  They will tour the Durant House and hear the story of the Bryant Durant family, early settlers of the Fox Valley.  Scouts will also learn about the different toys available to the children of the 19th century. This interactive program includes activities and games of the past. (This program meets some of the requirements for the Playing the Past Badge.)

Brownies

THE DURANT STORY AND YOUR STORY:  90 MINUTES

Abba Durant’s diary illustrates the significance of her life events and how meaningful a young girl’s personal story can be.  Scouts will discuss events in their own lives and the importance of keeping a modern day journal. Scouts will also tour the 1843 Durant House, dress in 19th century clothing to act out a play, and discover and play games that amused children in the 19th century.(This program meets some of the requirements for the My Family Story Badge.)

Fee:  $5/Scout; Minimum Group Fee: $50
